How To Communicate Your Corporate Turnaround To The Market

Spacetalk’s impressive track record of the past year was featured in Forbes over the weekend.

“Apple is the world's most valuable company today, but not so many years ago, it was also the business world's most famous turnaround story after nearly going bankrupt in the mid-1990s.

“Such a turnaround story is one of the most difficult challenges for corporate communicators to get across. Any company in need of a turnaround will be under extreme scrutiny. Missteps that would normally be forgiven instead draw obsessive attention.

“For small companies, the pressure can be even more intense than for large ones like Apple. Spacetalk's share price had lost more than 95% of its value by early 2023. That's when new CEO Simon Crowther took over with the mission of making the family safety wearables business profitable for the first time, increasing revenue by 33% by mid-2023.

“Companies that desperately need a turnaround seldom get approval to undertake it from investors who are afraid of investing more in what has become a losing proposition. In Apple's case, Jobs' track record was such that board members were willing to give him extraordinary support.

“At Spacetalk, Crowther received similar buy-in because he also had a track record, having helped build Nearmap into a technology company that was ultimately acquired for approximately $710 million.”

That's just the beginning. Read the full article on Forbes.com here.
