Spacetalk is proud to announce that its products have been certified as 100% free of the “forever chemicals” known as PFAS. This is another way that Spacetalk delivers safety to families, and it sets Spacetalk smartwatches apart from most other brands. It’s especially important given that PFAS can be absorbed through the skin.

It can be hard for consumers to tell which brands' products contain PFAS and which do not. A recent study from the University of Notre Dame in the United States found PFAS in 15 of the 22 common smartwatch brands they tested, which included Apple, Fitbit, and Samsung.(1) 

Even worse, the forever chemicals were present at levels much higher than in most consumer goods and clothing.

PFAS can be absorbed through the skin, especially in sweaty, active use scenarios like wearing a smartwatch during exercise.(2) If your watch band were to contain PFAS, that would raise potential health concerns such as hormone disruption, immune effects, and cancer risk.

“Spacetalk’s bands and watches do not contain PFAS,” said Spacetalk CEO and Managing Director Simon Crowther.

“Our mission is all about enabling safety and peace of mind, so we don't sell products with these potentially dangerous forever chemicals in them.”

Spacetalk products have been lab tested for PFAS or PFAS-based material content. They are compliant with guideline 537 for “PFAS-Free Products for Nonfood Compounds and Food Equipment Materials” by the leading global public health and safety organization, NSF.

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are synthetic chemicals that are notoriously persistent in the environment and the human body, hence the nickname “forever chemicals”.
